LauschiPrivacy Policy
This policy explains what personal data the Lauschi iOS app (“Lauschi”, “the app”) processes, why, and what rights you have. We keep data to the minimum needed to run the app: there are no ads, we do not sell data, and the app contains no third-party analytics SDK.
1Who is responsible
The controller is Hung Long Vu, sole proprietor, Japan postal address to be added.

2Your account
When you first open Lauschi, the app creates an anonymous account identified by a random ID. We do not ask for your name or email address.
We may later offer Sign in with Apple. If you use it, Apple shares a stable user identifier with us and, if you choose, an email address — which can be a private relay address created by Apple. We use it only to sign you in and, if needed, to contact you about your account.
3Data the app stores
To provide the service, the following data is stored in our app database (hosted by Supabase in the EU):
- Account ID (random identifier; Apple identifier and optional email if you use Sign in with Apple).
- Onboarding answers: motivations, challenges, German level, learning goal, daily minutes, reminder time, streak goal, and where you heard about the app.
- Saved words and decks you create.
- Review history used for spaced repetition (which words you reviewed, when, and how you rated them).
- Watch history (which clips you watched) and minutes watched per day (for streaks and goals).
- Settings you choose in the app.
- Reports you send about a translation or a clip, including the text of the report.
Reminders are scheduled as local notifications on your device. We do not operate a push server and do not store a push token.
4Service providers (processors)
We use the following providers. Each processes data only as needed for its function.

Embedded YouTube player. Some clips play through YouTube's embedded player. When such a clip plays, YouTube (Google) may set cookies or similar identifiers and collect data such as your IP address and viewing information in the player. This is governed by Google's Privacy Policy; we have no control over it.
5Legal bases
Where the EU/UK General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) applies, we rely on:
- Contract (Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR) — to provide the app and its features: your account, saved words, reviews, progress, subscription.
- Legitimate interests (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR) — to keep the service secure, prevent abuse and handle reports you send.
- Consent (Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR) — for reminder notifications, which you can turn off at any time in the app or in iOS Settings.
6International transfers
The operator is based in Japan; the European Commission has recognised Japan as providing an adequate level of data protection. App data is stored in the EU. Some providers (for example RevenueCat, Cloudflare, Apple and Google) are based in the United States or process data there. Such transfers rely on the EU–U.S. Data Privacy Framework where the provider is certified, and otherwise on the European Commission's Standard Contractual Clauses.
7How long we keep data
- Account data is kept for as long as your account exists.
- When you delete your account, your account and all associated data are deleted immediately.
- Database backups rotate; deleted data disappears from backups within 30 days to be confirmed by operator.
- Reports you send are kept until they have been processed.
8Deleting your account
In the app, open Settings → Delete account. This removes your account and all associated data immediately. Deleting your account does not cancel an App Store subscription — please cancel it separately in your Apple ID settings (iPhone Settings → your name → Subscriptions).
9Your rights
Under the GDPR you have the right to:
- access the personal data we hold about you;
- rectification of inaccurate data;
- erasure of your data;
- restriction of processing;
- data portability — receiving your data in a structured, machine-readable format;
- object to processing based on legitimate interests;
- withdraw consent at any time, without affecting processing before the withdrawal;
- lodge a complaint with a data protection supervisory authority, in particular in the EU member state where you live or work.
To exercise your rights, email privacy@getlauschi.com. Because accounts are anonymous, we may ask you to confirm your account ID (shown in the app confirm where) so we can find your data.
10Children
Lauschi is not directed at children under 16, and we do not knowingly collect personal data from them. If you believe a child has provided us with data, please contact us and we will delete it.
11Changes to this policy
We may update this policy when the app or the law changes. We will publish the new version on this page with a new date, and inform you in the app about significant changes.
